You Dont Have To Be a Scientist

Are you afraid you aren’t technical enough to try hydroponics?
Succeeding at growing plants in your garden can be tricky, yet more people feel that is easier than growing tomatoes and lettuce in the soil. Not only that you have the added benefit of being able to enjoy fresh, organically grown and vine ripened foods even in the winter months.

All those gadgets and foreign words sound too complicated.
It can’t be any more difficult than having to battle crop destruction from stem rot, blight and grasshoppers? The Internet is awash with homeowners trying to find out why their tomatoes are rotting on the vine or cracking wide open before ripening. In truth, growing your produce with hydroponics will be easier than it is battling the complexities of Mother Nature.

Growing plants successfully requires interest and dedication.
If you are interested enough to want to discover what happened in your garden, most likely you have the dedication required to succeed at hydroponics. It is always exciting to discover new places and experiment with different things. There are many different kinds of crop’s you can grow year around with a hydroponic grow tent or in a small greenhouse. The grow tent will cost you less in the long run versus heating a greenhouse over the cold season.

There are three main ingredients in hydroponic growing.
* Adequate water
* Oxygen
* Nutrients

I’ve heard that food grown with hydroponics is off flavored.
Fruits and vegetables grown in soil can also have strange or little flavor. It all depends on the available nutrients in whatever the food was grown in. With hydroponics you actually have greater control over what your plants take up than you do in ground soil. This means you have greater control over the resulting taste and quality of the food you grow hydroponically. By having total control over your hydroponic crop, you can actually produce superior flavor and increased food nutrition.

Hydroponic food is safer to eat.
Because you are growing in a controlled environment, your produce is not prone to absorbing toxins in the air or soil. You will also have far less insect or disease problems that require chemical applications to overcome. Hydroponic growers use pest or disease controls and nutrients that make everything they grow totally for human consumption.

No, grow lights will not cost a fortune on your monthly utility bill.
Some types of lights used for growing can be very expensive to run. Knowing which growing light types are most energy efficient is wise. Using high-pressure sodium lights gives you ten times more candlepower than a regular light bulb making them far more efficient at energy use. Lower powered lights will require you to use more of them to throw enough illumination for your plants to produce strong, lush growth. The number of hours you need to run grow lights each day is very dependent on what kind of plants you grow; fruit and flowering plants need longer daylight periods than ornamental or vegetable plants do.

Any type of growing will require an initial investment to get started.
To start a garden in your yard you will need to buy a rototiller, hand tools, hoses and sprinklers, seed, fertilizer, soil conditioners and perhaps more. The same is true of container growing where pots and potting media can cost a huge amount of money before you ever get to the seed or plants. Growing your own food will in the long run be less expensive than buying it and offer you a safer, healthier diet.
