Never assume that a plant is ignorant.
 They may not have a brain so to speak and they are not able to move about freely, but a plant is far from being unintelligent. Plants don’t need to attend school to learn how to go about their business. A plant may never obtain a Harvard degree, yet those who seek to totally understand them can obtain an education as high as the level of doctorate and still not know everything about plants.
Plants need no clock or calendar.
Plants tell time by the light. A plant does what it does according to the length of daylight hours and intensity of the light. The number of daylight hours guides a plant as to when it is time to do each step of their growth and production. They are never late, nor do they loose track of time. Lighting is of huge importance to the indoor grower where direct sunlight is impossible to attain.
Plants will never tell a lie.
Isn’t it refreshing to know that there is an entire society of life that you can count on to be honest 100% of the time? A plant has no concept of anything beyond the truth. It would never occur to them to toss in a few irrelevant notions over the course of a day. They may not be able to utter a single audible word, yet they have much to say and tomes of knowledge to impart.
You cannot lie to a plant.
The honesty thing is not a one sided option when it comes to dealing with plants. The result of teasing or abusing a plant is readily apparent by their reaction to ill treatment. Not that you have had an intention of doing them harm, most growers inflict the greatest injuries simply by not understanding the needs of a leafy life form.
Should you hire an interpreter?
 Well, you could call in a plant specialist every time your crop throws out a signal you don’t understand. This would make your hobby grow very costly, and you will have learned nothing about speaking the language of plant. A grower learns by error. It is not something to be ashamed or afraid of. No one is born with a green thumb, it is an honor bestowed upon those who grown wiser through the lessons learned through their own mistakes.
Plants have different requirements for each stage of their lifecycle.
The amount and spectrum of light plants need changes from seedling to stem and leaf growth to that required to set bud, flower and finally to set fruit and seed. The same is true of the nutrients they require. At one stage of a plant’s development, it can require more of each or any nutrient source than it will when it enters the next stage of production. It is your task as a grower to learn what each stage requires to enable you to succeed.
Growing is a journey.
A good grower knows that the destination is totally dependent on the route one takes to arrive at it. A garden is the journey of a lifetime; a crop is the journey from germination to harvest. The end result will only have as high a quality as the care and dedication that was given along the way. Mastering each leg of progress brings the greatest reward when you do arrive at your destination. |
